And you will be blessed. − Luke 14:13-14 | Qumran was a first-century Jewish community that had isolated itself from outside influences to prepare for the arrival of the Messiah. They took great care in devotional life, ceremonial washings, and strict adherence to rules of conduct. Surviving documents show that they would not allow the lame, the blind, or the crippled into their communities. This was based on their conviction that anyone with a physical “blemish” was ceremonially unclean. During their table fellowship, disabled people were never on their guest lists.
Ironically, at that same time the Messiah of Israel was at work in the cities and villages of Judea and Galilee. Jesus proclaimed His Father’s kingdom, brought teaching and comfort, and worked mighty miracles. Strikingly, He proclaimed: “When you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed” (Luke 14:13-14).
The contrast between Jesus’ words and the guest list of the Qumran “spiritual elite” is instructive to us. Often we like to fellowship with people who look, think, and act like us. But our Lord exhorts us to be like Him and open our doors to everyone. |

Luke 14:7-14
[7] When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:
[8] "When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited.
[9] If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.
[10] But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests.
[11] For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
[12] Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.
[13] But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,
[14] and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." |

아이러니하게도 그 당시에 이스라엘의 메시아가 유대와 갈릴리 지역에서 사역을 하고 있었습니다. 예수님은 하나님의 나라를 선포하시며, 가르치시고 위로하시며, 강력한 기적들도 행하셨습니다. 놀랍게도 주님은 “잔치를 베풀거든 차라리 가난한 자들과 몸 불편한 자들과 저는 자들과 맹인들을 청하라 그리하면…네가 갚음을 받겠음이라”(눅 14:13-14)라고 선포하셨습니다.
우리는 예수님의 말씀과 쿰란의 “영적 엘리트”의 손님 명부가 현저한 차이를 보이는 것을 보며 교훈을 얻습니다. 흔히 우리는 우리와 생김새 및 생각과 행동이 비슷한 사람들과 교제하기를 좋아합니다. 그러나 우리 주님은 우리가 주님을 닮아서 모든 이들에게 문을 열기를 권고하십니다. |
누가복음 14:7-14
[7] 청함을 받은 사람들이 높은 자리 택함을 보시고 그들에게 비유로 말씀하여 이르시되
[8] 네가 누구에게나 혼인 잔치에 청함을 받았을 때에 높은 자리에 앉지 말라 그렇지 않으면 너보다 더 높은 사람이 청함을 받은 경우에
[9] 너와 그를 청한 자가 와서 너더러 이 사람에게 자리를 내주라 하리니 그 때에 네가 부끄러워 끝자리로 가게 되리라
[10] 청함을 받았을 때에 차라리 가서 끝자리에 앉으라 그러면 너를 청한 자가 와서 너더러 벗이여 올라 앉으라 하리니 그 때에야 함께 앉은 모든 사람 앞에서 영광이 있으리라
[11] 무릇 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라
[12] 또 자기를 청한 자에게 이르시되 네가 점심이나 저녁이나 베풀거든 벗이나 형제나 친척이나 부한 이웃을 청하지 말라 두렵건대 그 사람들이 너를 도로 청하여 네게 갚음이 될까 하노라
[13] 잔치를 베풀거든 차라리 가난한 자들과 몸 불편한 자들과 저는 자들과 맹인들을 청하라
[14] 그리하면 그들이 갚을 것이 없으므로 네게 복이 되리니 이는 의인들의 부활시에 네가 갚음을 받겠음이라 하시더라 |
