I would sit on her lap and listen to every word. As she read, I examined the details of every picture and waited eagerly to hear what was on the next page.
Have you ever thought about the idea that our lives tell a story? In every situation—good, bad, or indifferent—people around us are watching and listening to the story we are telling. Our story is communicated not only through our words but also through our attitudes and actions as we respond to life’s buffetings and blessings. Our children and grand-children, spouses, neighbors, and co-workers can all observe the story we’re telling.
Paul reminds us that as followers of Jesus, our lives are like letters “known and read by all men; ... an epistle of Christ ... written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God”(2 Cor. 3:2-3).
What is the story that those around us are reading through the letter of our lives? Stories of forgiveness? Compassion? Generosity? Patience? Love?

2 Corinthians 3:1-11
[1] Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you?
[2] You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.
[3] You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
[4] Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.
[5] Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
[6] He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
[7] Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was,
[8] will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?
[9] If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
[10] For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.
[11] And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts! |

당신은 우리의 삶 자체가 하나의 이야기라고 생각해보신 적이 있습니까? 좋든 나쁘든 아니면 그저 그렇든, 우리 주변 사람들은 우리가 들려주는 이야기를 경청하며 지켜보고 있습니다. 우리의 이야기는 우리의 말로 전달될 뿐만 아니라, 삶이 주는 충격과 축복에 반응하는 우리의 행동이나 태도로도 전달됩니다. 우리의 자녀나 손자 손녀들, 배우자, 이웃, 그리고 직장 동료들까지도 우리가 들려주는 이야기를 관찰할 수 있습니다.
바울은 예수님을 따르는 자로서 우리의 삶은 편지와 같다고 상기시켜줍니다. “뭇사람이 알고 읽는 바라…그리스도의 편지니 이는 먹으로 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 살아 계신 하나님의 영으로 쓴 것이며”(고후 3:2-3).
우리 주변 사람들은 우리 삶의 편지에서 어떤 이야기를 읽고 있습니까? 용서의 이야기입니까? 아니면 동정심? 관대함? 인내심? 사랑의 이야기입니까?
당신 안에 계시는 성령님으로부터 오는 은혜가 충만한 삶의 기쁨을 경험하셨습니까? 그렇다면 하나님의 위대한 이야기꾼이 되는 기쁨의 장으로 당신을 초대합니다! |
고린도후서 3:1-11
[1] 우리가 다시 자천하기를 시작하겠느냐 우리가 어찌 어떤 사람처럼 추천서를 너희에게 부치거나 혹은 너희에게 받거나 할 필요가 있느냐
[2] 너희는 우리의 편지라 우리 마음에 썼고 뭇 사람이 알고 읽는 바라
[3] 너희는 우리로 말미암아 나타난 그리스도의 편지니 이는 먹으로 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 살아 계신 하나님의 영으로 쓴 것이며 또 돌판에 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 육의 마음판에 쓴 것이라
[4] 우리가 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님을 향하여 이같은 확신이 있으니
[5] 우리가 무슨 일이든지 우리에게서 난 것 같이 스스로 만족할 것이 아니니 우리의 만족은 오직 하나님으로부터 나느니라
[6] 그가 또한 우리를 새 언약의 일꾼 되기에 만족하게 하셨으니 율법 조문으로 하지 아니하고 오직 영으로 함이니 율법 조문은 죽이는 것이요 영은 살리는 것이니라
[7] 돌에 써서 새긴 죽게 하는 율법 조문의 직분도 영광이 있어 이스라엘 자손들은 모세의 얼굴의 없어질 영광 때문에도 그 얼굴을 주목하지 못하였거든
[8] 하물며 영의 직분은 더욱 영광이 있지 아니하겠느냐
[9] 정죄의 직분도 영광이 있은즉 의의 직분은 영광이 더욱 넘치리라
[10] 영광되었던 것이 더 큰 영광으로 말미암아 이에 영광될 것이 없으나
[11] 없어질 것도 영광으로 말미암았은즉 길이 있을 것은 더욱 영광 가운데 있느니라 |
