Some kids love to brag about their dads. If you eavesdrop on neighborhood conversations, you’ll hear children saying, “My dad is bigger than your dad!” or “My dad is smarter than your dad!” But the best brag of all is, “My dad is stronger than your dad!” This boast is usually in the context of a warning that if kids are threatening you, they’d better beware, because your dad can come and take them all down, including their dads!
Believing your dad is the strongest guy on the block inspires a lot of confidence in the face of danger. This is why I love the fact that God our Father is almighty. That means that no one can match His strength and power. Better still, it means that you and I “abide under the shadow of the Almighty”(Ps.91:1). So, it’s no wonder the psalmist can confidently say that he will not “be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day”(v.5).
Regardless of what today may bring or the trouble you are now going through, don’t forget that your God is stronger than anything in your life. So, be confident! The shadow of His all-prevailing presence guarantees that His power can turn even the worst situation into something good.
Father God, in the midst of my trouble,
teach me to rest in the fact that You are almighty. Thank You for the confidence I have that
You are stronger than anything that
threatens my life.

[3] Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. [4] He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. [5] You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, [6] Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. [7] A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. [8] only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. [9] Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, [10] No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; [11] For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. [12] In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. [13] You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. [14] "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. 환란 중의 확신
[ 시편 91:1 - 91:16 ] - 찬송가585장
지존자의 은밀한 곳에 거주하며 전능자의 그늘 아래에 사는 자여 - 시편 91:1
어떤 아이들은 자기 아빠 자랑하기를 좋아합니다. 만일 당신이 이웃 아이들의 대화를 엿듣는다면, “우리 아빠가 네 아빠보다 더 크다!”라던가 “우리 아빠가 더 똑똑해!”라는 말을 들을 수 있을 것입니다. 이중에서도 압권인 것은 “우리 아빠가 너희 아빠보다 힘이 세!”라는 말입니다. 대개 이 자랑은 경고의 말로, 만일 아이들이 자신을 위협하면 조심하는 것이 좋을 것이라는 내용, 즉 힘센 우리 아빠가 너희들을 가만두지 않을 것이며, 너희 아빠까지도 이길 수 있다는 것을 의미합니다.
아빠가 동네에서 가장 힘센 사람이라고 믿는 것은 어려움에 직면했을 때 아주 큰 힘이 됩니다. 이 때문에 나는 하나님 아버지가 전능하시다는 사실을 아주 좋아합니다. 이것은 어느 누구도 하나님의 힘과 능력에 견줄 수 없다는 것을 의미합니다. 더군다나, 이는 당신과 내가 “전능자의 그늘 아래에 사는”(시 91:1) 것을 뜻합니다. 그렇기에, 시편기자가 “밤에 찾아오는 공포와 낮에 날아드는 화살”(5절)을 두려워하지 않을 거라고 자신 있게 말할 수 있는 것도 전혀 놀랍지 않습니다.
오늘 무슨 일이 일어나고 현재 당면하고 있는 어려움이 무엇이든, 하나님은 당신 삶의 어떤 문제보다도 더 강하시다는 것을 잊지 마십시오. 그러므로 확신을 가지십시오! 모든 것을 다스리시는 하나님의 영향력은 그분의 능력으로 최악의 상황조차도 좋은 상황으로 전환시킬 수 있다는 것을 보장해줍니다.
하나님 아버지, 나의 어려움 가운데서도 하나님이 전능하시다는 사실을 알고
안식할 수 있도록 깨우쳐주소서.
나의 삶을 위협하는 그 어떤 것보다도 하나님이 더 강하다는 확신을 주셔서 감사합니다.
하나님은 우리의 가장 큰 문제보다도
더 크신 분이시다.
