McCasland | | | Eyes Of Love | | [ Mark 10:17 - 10:27 ] - hymn310 | | | Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him. — Mark 10:21 | Many people who come to Marc Salem’s stage shows think he can read minds. But he makes no such claim, saying he is not a psychic or magician, but a close observer of people. He told writer Jennifer Mulson, “We live in a world that’s mostly invisible to us because we’re not paying attention to things ... I’m very sensitive to what people give off”(The Gazette, Colorado Springs).
It’s interesting to note what Jesus saw as He met people. His encounter with a wealthy young man seeking eternal life is recorded in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Mark includes this telling detail, “Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him”(Mark 10:21). Some people may have seen this young man as an arrogant person (vv.19-20) while others might have envied his wealth, but Jesus looked at him with love.
We often focus on the man’s sad departure and apparent unwillingness to give up his riches and follow Jesus(v.22). When the disciples wondered aloud about the difficulty of a rich man entering the kingdom of God(v.26), “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible’”(v.27).
Today, Jesus sees us through eyes of love and invites us to follow Him. |
Mark 10:17-27
[17] Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"
[18] So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but one, that is, God.
[19] "You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not murder,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"
[20] And he answered and said to Him, "Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth."
[21] Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, one thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me."
[22] But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
[23] Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!"
[24] And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!
[25] "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
[26] And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?"
[27] But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." |

| 마크 살렘의 쇼에 온 많은 사람들은 그가 사람의 마음을 읽을 수 있다고 생각합니다. 그러나 그는 그런 말을 부인하며, 자신이 심령술사나 마술사가 아니라 사람들을 자세히 관찰하는 사람에 지나지 않는다고 말합니다. 그는 작가 제니퍼 멀슨에게 이렇게 말했습니다. “우리 주변에서 일어나는 일들에 주의를 기울이지 않기 때문에 대부분을 보지 못하는 세상에서 살고 있습니다.…나는 사람들이 밖으로 드러내 보이는 것에 아주 민감합니다.”(「가젯」신문, 콜로라도스프링스).
예수님이 사람들을 만나실 때 무엇을 보셨는지를 주목해보면 흥미롭습니다. 예수님이 영생을 찾고 있는 부자청년과 만난 이야기는 마태, 마가, 누가복음에 기록되어 있습니다. 마가복음에는 “예수께서 그를 보시고 사랑하사”(막 10:21)라고 더 자세히 쓰고 있습니다. 어떤 사람들은 이 젊은이를 거만한 자라고 보기도 하고(19-20절), 다른 사람들은 그의 재산을 부러워하기도 했지만, 예수님은 그를 사랑하는 마음으로 바라보셨습니다.
우리는 흔히 그 사람이 슬퍼하며 떠나간 것과, 기꺼이 재물을 포기하고 예수님을 따르지 못하는 모습에 초점을 맞춥니다(22절). 부자가 천국에 들어가기 힘들다는 것에 대해 제자들도 많이 놀랐습니다(26절). 그러나 “예수께서 그들을 보시며 이르시되 사람으로는 할 수 없으되 하나님으로는 그렇지 아니하니 하나님으로서는 다 하실 수 있느니라”(27절)고 말씀하셨습니다.
예수님은 오늘 우리를 사랑의 눈으로 보시고 우리에게 주님을 따르라고 초대하십니다. |
