| November 5, 2013 — by Anne Cetas | | | Good-Behavior Rewards | | [ 2 Corinthians 5:1 - 5:11 ] - hymn317 | | | We make it our aim ... to be well pleasing to [God]. — 2 Corinthians 5:9 | In a children’s ministry in my church, we hand out cards to the kids when we notice their good behavior. They collect the cards and receive prizes for the good choices they’ve made. We are trying to reinforce good behavior rather than focusing on bad behavior.
When one leader handed a card to 11-year-old Tyree, he responded, “No, thanks. I don’t need one; I want to behave well, and I don’t need a reward for that.” For him, doing the right thing was its own reward. He definitely has good values ingrained in him, and he wants to live them out—prize or not.
As believers in Jesus, we will receive rewards one day. Second Corinthians 5:10 says that everyone will “receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” But to get a reward should not be our motivation for right living. Neither is it to earn salvation. Living out of love for God and pleasing Him should be our heart’s desire.
When we love God, we make it our aim to please Him who first loved us (1 John 4:19) and to serve Him with pure motives(Prov.16:2; 1 Cor.4:5). The best reward will be to be with Him! |

2 Corinthians 5:1-11
[1] For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
[2] For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,
[3] if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.
[4] For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.
[5] Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
[6] So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.
[7] For we walk by faith, not by sight.
[8] We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
[9] Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.
[10] For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
[11] Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences. |
| | 2013년 11월 05일 (화) | | | 선행에 대한 보상 | | [ 고린도후서 5:1 - 5:11 ] - 찬송가 317장 | | | 우리는…주를 기쁘시게 하는 자가 되기를 힘쓰노라 - 고린도후서 5:9 | 내가 출석하는 교회의 주일학교에서는 착한 일을 한 아이들에게 카드를 나눠줍니다. 아이들은 그 카드를 모아 나중에 그들의 착한 행동에 대해 상품을 받습니다. 우리는 나쁜 행동에 초점을 맞추기 보다는 선행을 강화하려고 그렇게 합니다.
주일학교의 한 리더가 11살 난 타이리에게 카드를 주자, 그 아이는 다음과 같이 말했습니다. “아니에요, 저는 필요 없어요. 저는 착한 일을 하고 싶은 것이지 그에 대한 상은 필요 없어요.” 그에게 있어서 선행은 그 자체로 보상이었습니다. 그에게는 분명히 좋은 가치관이 형성되어 있었고, 그는 보상과 관계없이 가치관대로 살기를 원하고 있었습니다.
예수님을 믿는 자로서 우리는 훗날 보상을 받을 것입니다. 고린도후서 5장 10절은 우리가 “각각 선악 간에 그 몸으로 행한 것을 따라 받으려 함이라”라고 말합니다. 그러나 보상을 받는 것이 올바른 삶을 살려는 동기가 되어서는 안 됩니다. 그렇게 해서 구원을 얻으려 해서도 안 됩니다. 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 살고 그분을 기쁘게 해드리는 것이 우리 마음에서 우러나오는 것이 되어야 합니다.
우리가 하나님을 사랑하면, 우리를 먼저 사랑해주신 하나님을(요일 4:19) 기쁘게 해드리고, 순수한 동기로 하나님을 섬기는 것을(잠 16:2; 고전 4:5) 우리의 목표로 삼게 됩니다. 최고의 보상은 하나님과 함께 거하게 되는 것입니다! |

[2] 참으로 우리가 여기 있어 탄식하며 하늘로부터 오는 우리 처소로 덧입기를 간절히 사모하노라
[3] 이렇게 입음은 우리가 벗은 자들로 발견되지 않으려 함이라
[4] 참으로 이 장막에 있는 우리가 짐진 것 같이 탄식하는 것은 벗고자 함이 아니요 오히려 덧입고자 함이니 죽을 것이 생명에 삼킨 바 되게 하려 함이라
[5] 곧 이것을 우리에게 이루게 하시고 보증으로 성령을 우리에게 주신 이는 하나님이시니라
[6] 그러므로 우리가 항상 담대하여 몸으로 있을 때에는 주와 따로 있는 줄을 아노니

[8] 우리가 담대하여 원하는 바는 차라리 몸을 떠나 주와 함께 있는 그것이라
