December 10, 2013 — by Anne Cetas A Giving Competition [ 2 Corinthians 9:6 - 9:15 ] - hymn66 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! — 2 Corinthians 9:15 A television commercial I enjoy at Christmastime shows two neighbors in a friendly competition with each other to see who can spread the most Christmas cheer. Each keeps an eye on the other as he decorates his house and trees with lights. Then each upgrades his own property to look better than the other’s. They then start competing over who can give the most extravagantly to other neighbors, running around cheerfully sharing gifts. God’s people aren’t in a competition to see who can give the most, but we are called to be “ready to give, willing to share”(1 Tim.6:18). The apostle Paul instructed the church at Corinth: “Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver”(2 Cor.9:7). At Christmastime, as we share gifts with others, we remember the generosity of God toward us─He gave us His Son. Ray Stedman said, “Jesus set aside His riches and entered into His creation in a state of poverty in order to enrich us all by His grace.” No gift-giving could ever compete with the Lord’s extravagance. We thank God for the indescribable gift of Jesus! [7] So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. [8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. [9] As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever." [10] Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, [11] while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. [12] For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, [13] while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, [14] and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you. 2013년 12월 10일 (화) 주기 경쟁 [ 고린도후서 9:6 - 9:15 ] - 찬송가 66장 말할 수 없는 그의 은사로 말미암아 하나님께 감사하노라 - 고린도후서 9:15 크리스마스 때 내가 즐겨보는 TV 광고는 이웃에 사는 두 사람이 등장해 누가 사람들에게 크리스마스 기분을 더 잘 전하는지 선의의 경쟁을 하는 것입니다. 각자 자신의 집과 나무를 전구로 장식하면서 상대방이 하는 것을 유심히 봅니다. 그러고는 상대방의 집보다 한층 돋보이도록 자신의 집을 열심히 꾸밉니다. 그런 다음 누가 이웃들에게 선물을 가장 푸짐하게 주는지 경쟁을 시작하는데, 즐겁게 주위를 뛰어다니면서 선물을 나누어줍니다. 하나님의 백성은 누가 가장 많이 줄 수 있는 지에 대한 경쟁은 하지 않습니다. 그러나 우리는 “나누어주기를 좋아하며 너그러운 자가 되게 하라”(딤전 6:18)라는 부름을 받았습니다. 바울사도는 고린도교회에 다음과 같이 가르쳤습니다. “각각 그 마음에 정한 대로 할 것이요 인색함으로나 억지로 하지 말지니 하나님은 즐겨 내는 자를 사랑하시느니라”(고후 9:7). 크리스마스 때, 우리는 다른 사람들과 선물을 나누면서 우리에게 그의 아들을 보내주신 하나님의 풍성한 사랑을 기억합니다. 레이 스테드만은 이렇게 말했습니다. “은혜가 풍성한 예수님은 우리를 부요케 하시기 위해 자신의 부요를 버리고 가난한 모습으로 자신이 창조하신 세계 속으로 들어오셨다.” 어떤 선물을 주고받더라도 하나님이 주신 엄청난 선물과는 겨룰 수 없습니다. 감사하게도 하나님은 예수님이라는 형언할 수 없는 선물을 우리에게 주셨습니다(15절).     창조주시며 왕 되신 하나님 아버지께 찬양 드리세 자비하심으로 우리에게 새 노래를 가르치셨네 우리를 만드시고, 길 잃고 반역하여도 우리를 사랑하시며 한량없는 값으로 우리의 구속을 계획하셨네 예수님 자신보다 더 큰 선물은 없다. 고린도후서 9:6-15 [6] 이것이 곧 적게 심는 자는 적게 거두고 많이 심는 자는 많이 거둔다 하는 말이로다 [7] 각각 그 마음에 정한 대로 할 것이요 인색함으로나 억지로 하지 말지니 하나님은 즐겨 내는 자를 사랑하시느니라 [8] 하나님이 능히 모든 은혜를 너희에게 넘치게 하시나니 이는 너희로 모든 일에 항상 모든 것이 넉넉하여 모든 착한 일을 넘치게 하게 하려 하심이라 [9] 기록된 바 그가 흩어 가난한 자들에게 주었으니 그의 의가 영원토록 있느니라 함과 같으니라 [10] 심는 자에게 씨와 먹을 양식을 주시는 이가 너희 심을 것을 주사 풍성하게 하시고 너희 의의 열매를 더하게 하시리니 [11] 너희가 모든 일에 넉넉하여 너그럽게 연보를 함은 그들이 우리로 말미암아 하나님께 감사하게 하는 것이라 [12] 이 봉사의 직무가 성도들의 부족한 것을 보충할 뿐 아니라 사람들이 하나님께 드리는 많은 감사로 말미암아 넘쳤느니라 [13] 이 직무로 증거를 삼아 너희가 그리스도의 복음을 진실히 믿고 복종하는 것과 그들과 모든 사람을 섬기는 너희의 후한 연보로 말미암아 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 [14] 또 그들이 너희를 위하여 간구하며 하나님이 너희에게 주신 지극한 은혜로 말미암아 너희를 사모하느니라 [15] 말할 수 없는 그의 은사로 말미암아 하나님께 감사하노라
