My cable company sent a postcard inviting me to check out its latest improvements in TV channels. The card indicated that I needed to contact the company to get the necessary new digital
equipment and explained how to hook it up
and activate it. After that, the ad said I was just
to “sit back and enjoy the World of More.”
The card made me think of the “World of More”
that Christians are privileged to live in. When
God transports people from the darkness of sin
“into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9), a whole
new life opens up.
Romans 5 tells us some of the more that we
have in Christ: We have been “reconciled to
God through the death of His Son” (v.10) and
therefore have “peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ” (v.1). We have access to God
and His grace (v.2). Rejoicing in trouble is now
possible because we understand that it’s an
opportunity to grow in our character through
trusting Him (vv.3-4). Additionally, the Holy
Spirit, who has been given to live in us, pours
the love of God into our hearts (v.5). And sin
no longer has the same hold on us (6:18).
As Christians, we have unlimited access to a real “World of More.” Wouldn’t it be selfish not to
invite others to join us in that special world?

내가 가입한 유선방송회사에서 최근에 TV 채널을 늘렸음을 알리는 엽서를 보내왔습니다. 그 엽서는 TV 시청에 필요한 새로운 디지털장비를 받으려면 회사로 연락하라는 것과, 장비를 어떻게 연결하고 작동시키는지 설명하고 있었습니다. 그러고 나서 그 광고는 그냥 “편안히 앉아서 더 좋은 세상을 즐기십시오.”라고 이야기하고 있었습니다.
그 엽서는 나로 하여금 그리스도인들이 살 수 있게 특권으로 주어진 “더 좋은 세상”에 대하여 생각하게 해주었습니다. 하나님이 사람들을 죄의 흑암으로부터 “그의 기이한 빛으로”(벧전 2:9) 옮기실 때 완전히 새로운 삶이 열리게 됩니다.
로마서 5장은 우리가 그리스도 안에서 갖고 있는 더 좋은 것들에 대해 말합니다. 우리는 “그 아들의 죽으심으로 말미암아 하나님으로 더불어 화목 되었은즉”(10절) “우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님으로 더불어 화평을 누리게”(1절) 됩니다. 우리는 하나님과 하나님의 은혜에 들어감을 얻었습니다(2절). 환난은 하나님을 신뢰함으로써 우리의 인격이 성장하는 기회라는 것을 알기 때문에, 우리는 이제 환난 중에도 즐거워할 수 있습니다(3-4절). 그 외에도, 오셔서 우리 속에 살아계신 성령님이 하나님의 사랑을 우리 마음에 부어주십니다(5절). 그리고 죄는 더 이상 이전 같이 우리를 지배하지 못합니다(6:18).
실재하는 “더 좋은 세상”에 들어가는 데에 그리스도인인 우리에게는 아무런 제약이 없습니다. 그런 특별한 세상에 우리와 함께 있도록 다른 사람들을 초대하지 않는 것은 이기적인 일이 아닐까요?

Romans 5
1 (A)Therefore, having been justified by faith, (B)we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have (C)obtained our introduction by faith into this grace(D)in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 (E)And not only this, but we also (F)exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about (G)perseverance; 4 and(H)perseverance, (I)proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope (J)does not disappoint, because the love of God has been (K)poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
6 For while we were still (L)helpless, (M)at the right time (N)Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God (O)demonstrates (P)His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, (Q)Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified (R)by His blood, we shall be saved (S)from the wrath of God through Him. 10 For if while we were (T)enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved (U)by His life. 11 (V)And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received (W)the reconciliation.
