The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
to all who call upon Him in truth.

College students rent a house from my sister and her husband. one night, a thief attempted to break in. When the young woman living there called the police to tell them that a break-in was in progress, the operator responded in an unusual way: "You'll have to call back in the morning. We're just too busy right now." That response was very disturbing! The young woman had done the right thing by calling the police, but for some reason her plea for help was disregarded. That kind of indifference is upsetting.
But indifference never happens when we go to God in prayer. We may not always feel that God is listening, but He is. He cares, and He will respond. The Bible reminds us that we can take comfort in the fact that our God is deeply concerned with what con-cerns our hearts: "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth"(Ps. 145:18). When we call out to Him, we will never get a disinterested response.
Rather than distancing Himself from us when we cry to Him, our heavenly Father draws close to us in our time of need. He is never too busy for His child’s prayers―He hears us when we call. ―Bill Crowder

대학생들이 내 누이 부부의 집에 세를 들었습니다. 어느 날 밤, 도둑이 침입하려고 했습니다. 거기에 살던 젊은 여성이 경찰에 전화하여 도둑이 들어오고 있다고 신고하자, 교환원은 뜻밖에도 “아침에 다시 전화해주십시오. 우리는 지금 너무 바쁩니다.”라고 응답하였습니다. 너무나도 황당한 반응이었습니다! 그 젊은 여성은 제대로 경찰에 신고를 했지만, 무슨 이유에선지 그녀의 도움 요청은 무시되었습니다. 그 같은 무관심은 우리를 몹시 화가 나게 합니다.
그러나 우리가 기도를 통해 하나님께 나아갈 때 무관심이란 반응은 절대로 없습니다. 우리가 하나님이 듣고 계신다고 항상 느끼지는 못할지라도, 하나님은 듣고 계십니다. 하나님은 관심을 갖고 응답해주실 것입니다. 성경은 우리가 마음으로 걱정하는 것에 대해 우리의 하나님도 깊이 걱정하신다는 사실을 알면 우리가 위로 받을 수 있다고 상기시켜 줍니다. “여호와께서는 자기에게 간구하는 모든 자 곧 진실하게 간구하는 모든 자에게 가까이 하시는도다”(시 145:18). 하나님께 부르짖을 때 우리는 결코 무관심한 응답을 받지 않습니다.
하늘에 계시는 우리 아버지는 우리가 힘들 때 그분께 울부짖으면 우리와 거리를 두시는 것이 아니라 더 가까이 다가오십니다. 하나님은 아무리 바쁘셔도 자녀의 기도를 들으십니다. 우리가 소리쳐 부를 때 하나님은 들으십니다.

8 The LORD is (A)gracious and merciful;
Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
9 The LORD is (B)good to all,
And His (C)mercies are over all His works.
10 (D)All Your works shall give thanks to You, O LORD,
And Your (E)godly ones shall bless You.
11 They shall speak of the (F)glory of Your kingdom
And talk of Your power;
12 To (G)make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts
And the (H)glory of the majesty of Your kingdom.
