Years ago I came to know a young man who rode with a motorcycle gang. He had grown up on a mission field where his parents served. When his family returned to the US, he seemed unable to adjust to life. He lived a troubled existence and was killed in a street fight with a rival gang.		수년 전에 저는 오토바이 갱단에 있던 한 젊은이를 알게 되었습니다. 그는 자기 부모님이 사역하던 선교지에서 자라다가 가족들이 미국으로 돌아온 후 잘 적응하지 못했던 것 같습니다. 그의 인생은 평탄하지 못했으며 그는 경쟁 관계에 있던 다른 오토바이 갱단과 싸우던 중 살해되었습니다.
I’ve helped at many funeral services, but this was by far the most memorable. It was held in a park where there is a natural grassy bowl surrounding a small lake. His friends parked their bikes in a circle and sat on the grass around a friend and me while we conducted the service. We spoke simply and briefly about peace among warring factions and the inner peace that Jesus’ love can bring.		나는 많은 장례식에 가서 절차를 도왔지만 이 젊은이의 장례식이 가장 기억에 남습니다. 장례식은 작은 호수를 둘러싸고 자연적으로 우묵한 그릇같이 생긴 잔디밭이 있는 공원에서 치러졌습니다. 장례식이 치러지고 있을 때 그 젊은이의 친구들이 오토바이를 둥그렇게 세워놓고는 나와 내 친구가 있는 잔디밭에 와 앉았습니다. 우리는 서로 경쟁하는 갱단들에게 평화와 예수님의 사랑이 가져다 줄 수 있는 내적 평화에 대해서 간단명료하게 말했습니다.
Afterward, a motorcycle gang member thanked us, started to walk away, but then turned back. I’ve never forgotten his words. He said that he had “a putt, a pad, and an old lady” (a bike, apartment, and girlfriend), and then added, “But I ain’t got no peace.” So we talked about Jesus who is our peace.		나중에 그 갱단 중 한 사람이 우리에게 감사를 표하고는 걸어가다가 다시 돌아섰습니다. 나는 그 때 그 사람이 한 말을 한 번도 잊은 적이 없습니다. 그 사람은 자기에게 “오토바이, 아파트, 그리고 여자친구”가 있다고 했습니다. 그리고 그는 다음과 같이 덧붙였습니다. “그러나 나에게는 평화가 없어요.” 그래서 우리는 우리의 평화이신 예수님에 대해 얘기를 나누었습니다.
Whether we’ve got a chopper or a Cadillac, a mansion or a tiny apartment, a loved one or no one—it makes no difference. Without Jesus, there is no peace. He said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you” (John 14:27). This gift is for all who trust in Him. Have you asked for His peace? —David Roper		우리가 헬리콥터를 갖고 있든 캐딜락을 갖고 있든, 호화주택을 갖고 있든 조그만 아파트를 갖고 있든, 사랑하는 사람이 있든 없든, 이것들은 전혀 중요하지 않습니다. 예수님 없이는 결코 평화가 있을 수 없습니다. 예수님은 “평안을 너희에게 끼치노니 곧 나의 평안을 너희에게 주노라”(요한복음 14:27)고 하셨습니다. 이 선물은 그분을 믿는 모든 사람들에게 주시는 것입니다. 당신은 그분에게 이 평화를 요청해보신 적이 있으십니까?
Lord, I want to have peace in my life. To be at peace with You, with others, and with myself. Your Word says that comes from You. Please give me Your gift of peace. Amen.		주님, 제 삶속에 평화를 갖기 원합니다. 주님과, 다른 사람들과, 그리고 나 자신과 평화를 누리고 싶습니다. 주님의 말씀에 평화는 주님으로부터 온다고 하셨습니다. 저에게 주님의 평화를 허락하여 주시기 원합니다. 아멘
Jesus died in our place to give us His peace.		예수님은 자신의 평화를 우리에게 주시려고 우리를 대신해서 돌아가셨다.

John 14:25-31

   ²⁵ “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. ²⁶ But the ^(A)Helper, the Holy Spirit, ^(B)whom the Father will send in My name, ^(C)He will teach you all things, and^(D)bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. ^27 (E)Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. ^(F)Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. ^28 (G)You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and ^(H)I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because^(I)I go to the Father, for ^(J)the Father is greater than I. ²⁹ Now ^(K)I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. ³⁰ I will not speak much more with you, for ^(L)the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; ³¹ but so that the world may know that I love the Father, ^[a]I do exactly as ^(M)the Father commanded Me.
