Our friend is a computer “techie.” one night when our family was at his house, I noticed a verse taped to his monitor: “I have made a covenant with my eyes” (Job 31:1). Evidently, he understood the potential danger of spending hours alone in front of a computer with easy access to indecent images.		우리 친구는 컴퓨터 “기술자”입니다. 어느 날 저녁 우리 가족이 그의 집에 있을 때, 나는 그의 컴퓨터 모니터에 “내가 내 눈과 언약을 세웠나니”(욥기 31:1)라는 성경구절이 붙어있는 것을 보았습니다. 분명히 그는 음란물에 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 컴퓨터 앞에서 많은 시간을 혼자 보낼 때의 잠재적 위험에 대해서 잘 알고 있었던 것 같습니다.
Our friend’s “reminder verse” is a quote from Job, and it continues, “Why then should I look upon a young woman?” Like many of us, Job had promised himself to stay free of lust. Reflecting on that oath, he said, “Does [God] not see my ways, and count all my steps?” (v.4). The Bible assures us that God does (Heb. 4:13), and that we are accountable to Him. This is why believers must “abstain from sexual immorality” (1 Thess. 4:3). While some want to debate the boundaries of morality, the Bible says, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matt. 5:28).		우리 친구의 “경고의 구절”은 욥기에서 따온 것인데 그 구절은 “어찌 처녀에게 주목하랴”라는 말로 바로 이어집니다. 우리 중 많은 사람과 같이 욥도 욕망에서 벗어나 있기로 자신에게 약속했습니다. 그 맹세를 곰곰이 생각해보면서 욥은 “[하나님께서] 내 길을 살피지 아니하시느냐 내 걸음을 다 세지 아니하시느냐”(4절)고 말했습니다. 성경은 분명히 하나님이 그렇게 하시고(히브리서 4:13), 우리는 하나님 앞에서 결산을 해야 한다고 말합니다. 그렇기 때문에 우리 믿는 사람들은 “음란을 버려야”(데살로니가전서 4:3) 합니다. 어떤 사람들은 도덕의 경계선에 대해 따지고 싶을지 모르겠지만, 성경은 “여자를 보고 음욕을 품는 자마다 마음에 이미 간음하였느니라”(마태복음 5:28)고 말씀합니다.
