When I teach, I sometimes use the motto “Question Authority” to get the attention of my students. I am not inviting them to challenge my authority; I am encouraging them to ask me questions. Some education experts say that more learning takes place when teachers answer questions than when they impart information. By nature, we all place a higher value on what we want to know than on what someone wants to tell us.		나는 가르칠 때에 학생들의 주의를 끌기 위해서 때로 “권위를 질문하라”는 말을 사용합니다. 그들에게 나의 권위에 도전하라고 권유하는 것이 아니라 나에게 질문하라고 북돋워주는 것입니다. 어떤 교육전문가들은 교사들이 단순히 정보를 전달할 때보다 질문에 대답할 때 더 효과적인 학습이 이루어진다고 말합니다. 우리는 본능적으로, 다른 사람이 우리에게 말하고자 하는 것보다 우리가 알고 싶어 하는 것에 보다 많은 관심을 기울입니다.
There is, of course, a place for both types of teaching, but encouraging questions is one of the first that is found in Scripture. Even before the Israelites left Egypt, the Lord instructed Moses to institute a practice that would invite questions. The Passover celebration would serve two purposes: It would remind the adults of God’s deliverance, and it would cause their children to ask about it (Ex. 12:26).		물론 이 두 가지 교육방식이 각기 효과적인 영역이 따로 있겠지만, 질문을 권장하는 것은 성경에서 처음으로 사용된 방법 중의 하나입니다. 이스라엘 사람들이 이집트를 떠나기 전에도, 하나님은 질문을 권장하는 관례를 만들도록 모세에게 지시했습니다. 유월절을 기리는 것에는 두 가지 목적이 있었습니다. 어른들에게는 하나님의 구원하심을 기억하게 하는 것이었고, 그리고 그들의 자녀들이 그 예식이 무엇인지 물어보게 하기 위함이었습니다(출애굽기 12:26).
“Why” can be an annoying question, but it can also be a wonderful opportunity to give a reason for our faith (1 Peter 3:15). Instead of being impatient when others ask questions, we can be thankful they have a heart and mind open to learning. Lord, may I be approachable and open to listening to others’ questions. May I not feel threatened but instead have confidence that You will give me wisdom to know how to reply or where to find an answer. Amen.		주님, 남들이 부담 없이 질문을 던질 수 있고, 남들의 질문을 열린 마음으로 귀 기울여 들을 수 있는 제가 될 수 있도록 도와주소서. 두려워하지 않고, 어떻게 대답하고 또 어디서 답을 찾을지를 알 수 있는 지혜를 주님께서 분명히 주신다는 것을 확신하도록 도와주소서. 아멘.
Honest questions can lead to faith-building answers.		솔직한 질문은 믿음을 자라게 하는 대답을 이끌어낼 수 있다.

The Passover Lamb

 ¹ Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of ^[a]Egypt, ² “^(A)This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. ³ Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a ^[b]lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a ^[c]lamb for ^[d]each household. ⁴Now if the household is too small for a ^[e]lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the ^[f]number of persons in them; according to ^[g]what each man should eat, you are to ^[h]divide the lamb. ⁵ Your^[i]lamb shall be ^(B)an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. ^6 [j]You shall keep it until the^(C)fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it ^[k](D)at twilight. ^7 (E)Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel ^[l]of the houses in which they eat it. ⁸ They shall eat the flesh^(F)that same night, ^(G)roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with ^(H)unleavened bread ^[m](I)and bitter herbs. ⁹ Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather ^(J)roasted with fire,both its head and its legs along with ^(K)its entrails. ^10 (L)And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire. ¹¹ Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste—it is^(M)the LORD’S Passover. ¹² For ^(N)I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and ^(O)against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments—^(P)I am the LORD. ^13 (Q)The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you ^[n]live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you ^[o]to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
