During World War II, the British Isles represented the last line of resistance against the sweep of Nazi oppression in Europe. Under relentless attack and in danger of collapse, however, Britain lacked the resources to see the conflict through to victory. For that reason, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill went on BBC radio and appealed to the world: “Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.” He knew that without help from the outside, they could not endure the assault they were facing.		제2차 세계대전 중, 영국 제도는 유럽을 휩쓰는 나치의 압제에 대항하는 최후의 보루 역할을 하고 있었습니다. 그러나 영국은 무자비한 공격과 붕괴의 위험 가운데서 전쟁을 승리로 이끌 수 있는 자원들이 부족했습니다. 그래서 영국수상 윈스턴 처칠은 BBC 라디오 방송을 통해 전 세계에 이렇게 호소했습니다. “우리에게 도구를 주십시오. 그러면 과업을 완수하겠습니다.” 그는 외부의 도움 없이는 그들이 당면하고 있는 공격을 견디어낼 수 없다는 것을 알았습니다.
Life is like that. Often, we are inadequate for the troubles life throws at us, and we need help from outside of ourselves. As members of the body of Christ, that help can come at times from our Christian brothers and sisters (Rom. 12:10-13) —and that is a wonderful thing. Ultimately, however, we seek help from our heavenly Father. The good and great news is that our God has invited us to come confidently before Him: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16).		인생도 그와 같습니다. 우리는 자주 인생이 우리에게 던져주는 고난을 감당하기에 역부족이어서 외부의 도움이 필요합니다. 그리스도의 몸의 지체로서, 주님을 믿는 형제자매들에게서 도움을 받기도 하는데(로마서 12:10-13) 그것은 매우 좋은 일입니다. 그러나 궁극적으로 우리는 우리 하나님아버지에게 도움을 청합니다. 복되고도 엄청난 소식은 우리 하나님이 우리를 그분 앞에 담대하게 나오라고 초대하셨다는 것입니다. “우리가 긍휼하심을 받고 때를 따라 돕는 은혜를 얻기 위하여 은혜의 보좌 앞에 담대히 나아갈 것이니라”(히브리서 4:16).
At such times, our greatest resource is prayer—for it brings us into the very presence of God. There we find, in His mercy and grace, the help we need. —Bill Crowder		그와 같은 때에, 우리가 지닌 최고의 자원은 기도입니다. 왜냐하면 기도는 우리를 하나님 존전으로 바로 이끌기 때문입니다. 거기서 우리는 그분의 자비와 은혜 안에서 필요한 도움을 찾게 됩니다.

Don’t let prayer be your last recourse in time of need; make it your first.		어려운 일을 당할 때에 기도가 가장 마지막이 아니라 첫 번째 자원이 되게 하라.

 

Hebrews 4:9-16

⁹ So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. ¹⁰ For the one who has entered His rest has himself also ^(A)rested from his works, as ^(B)God did from His. ¹¹ Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through followingthe same ^(C)example of ^(D)disobedience. ¹² For^(E)the word of God is ^(F)living and ^(G)active and sharper than any two-edged ^(H)sword, and piercing as far as the division of ^(I)soul and ^(J)spirit, of both joints and marrow, and ^(K)able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ And^(L)there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are ^(M)open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

 ¹⁴ Therefore, since we have a great ^(N)high priest who has ^(O)passed through the heavens, Jesus^(P)the Son of God, let us hold fast our ^(Q)confession.¹⁵ For we do not have ^(R)a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been ^(S)tempted in all things as we are, yet^(T)without sin. ¹⁶ Therefore let us ^(U)draw near with^(V)confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
