Steve was just an ordinary guy. He quietly served in a church I attended years ago. He helped prepare communion, shoveled the church sidewalks in the winter, and mowed the lawn in the summer. He spent time with teenage boys who had no fathers in the home. I often heard him telling people at church in his quiet way how good the Lord was to him. During prayer meeting he didn’t talk much about himself but would ask us to pray for those he was telling about Jesus’ forgiveness and love.		스티브는 그냥 보통사람이었습니다. 그는 내가 오래 전에 출석했던 교회에서 조용히 섬기던 사람이었습니다. 그는 성찬준비를 도왔고, 겨울에는 보도위의 눈을 치우고, 여름에는 잔디를 깎았습니다. 집에 아버지가 없는 십대남자 아이들과 함께 시간을 보냈습니다. 그가 하나님이 얼마나 그에게 좋으신 분인지에 대해 그의 조용한 표현 방법으로 이야기하는 것을 나는 교회에서 자주 들었습니다. 기도모임에서는 그는 자기 자신에 대해서는 많이 말하지 않았지만, 그가 예수님의 용서와 사랑에 대해 전도하고 있는 사람들을 위해 우리에게 기도 요청을 하고는 했습니다.
A verse in John 10 about John the Baptist makes me think of Steve. People said of him: “John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man [Jesus] were true” (v.41). John didn’t perform miracles as Jesus did. He didn’t talk about himself but came to “bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe” (1:7). He said of Jesus, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (1:29). My friend Steve bore witness of that Light as well.		요한복음 10장에 있는 세례 요한에 관한 구절은 스티브를 생각나게 합니다. 사람들은 그에 대해 “요한은 아무 표적도 행치 아니하였으나 요한이 이 사람(예수님)을 가리켜 말한 것은 다 참이라”(41절)고 하였습니다. 요한은 예수님이 하셨던 것 같이 기적을 행하지는 않았습니다. 그는 자신에 대해서는 말하지 않았고, “빛에 대하여 증거하고 모든 사람으로 자기를 인하여 믿게 하려고”(1:7) 왔습니다. 그는 예수님에 대해, “보라 세상 죄를 지고 가는 하나님의 어린양이로다”(1:29)라고 말했습니다. 나의 친구 스티브도 그 빛에 대한 증인이었습니다.
Our aim, as followers of Jesus, is to do the same—to “bear witness of the Light.” We’re just ordinary people, serving God in our little corner of the world. Christians are ordinary people who are committed to the extraordinary person of Christ.		그리스도인은 예수님의 특별한 사람이 되기로 헌신한 보통사람들이다.

John 10:31-42

 ³¹ The Jews ^(A)picked up stones again to stone Him. ³² Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” ³³ The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for^(B)blasphemy; and because You, being a man,^(C)make Yourself out to be God.” ³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in ^(D)your ^(E)Law, ‘^(F)I SAID, YOU ARE GODS’? ³⁵ If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), ³⁶ do you say of Him, whom the Father ^(G)sanctified and ^(H)sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘^(I)I am the Son of God’? ^37 (J)If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; ³⁸ but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe ^(K)the works, so that you may ^[a]know and understand that ^(L)the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” ³⁹Therefore ^(M)they were seeking again to seize Him, and ^(N)He eluded their grasp.

 ⁴⁰ And He went away ^(O)again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there. ⁴¹ Many came to Him and were saying, “While John performed no ^(P)sign, yet^(Q)everything John said about this man was true.”^42 (R)Many believed in Him there.
