To be honest, I wasn’t happy to be making another trip to the store. For the previous 4 weeks, my wife and I had been trying to get a refund for a bad refrigerator. As I spoke with the manager—again—it seemed that we were heading down another dead-end road. As we talked, I wondered if we would ever get our money back, but I tried to be gracious.		솔직히 말해서 나는 그 가게에 다시 가고 싶지 않았습니다. 지난 4주 동안 나와 내 아내는 불량품 냉장고를 반품하고 환불받으려고 애써 왔습니다. 또 다시 그 상점 지배인과 얘기하는 동안 우리는 또 다른 막다른 길로 접어든 듯한 느낌이 들었습니다. 서로 이야기하면서 나는 과연 돈을 환불받을 수 있을까 걱정이 되었지만, 계속 정중하려고 애썼습니다.
At one point the manager said, “By now, customers are usually yelling at me, but you’ve been so patient.” Then he said, “Let’s try something else.” He asked me some questions and punched some numbers into a cash register. After a short delay—and some stories about irate customers—the machine spit out a receipt showing a refund! Our appliance nightmare was over. “Thanks for being so good to work with,” he said as we parted ways.		그러던 어느 순간 그가 “이쯤 되면 고객들은 보통 저에게 소리를 지르는데 고객님들은 아주 참을성이 많으시네요.”라고 말하고는, “다른 방법으로 해봅시다.”라고 말했습니다. 그는 몇 가지를 더 물어보고는 현금등록기에 어떤 숫자들을 입력했습니다. 화를 내는 손님들에 대한 이야기를 나누면서 약간의 시간이 흐른 후에, 그 기계는 환불을 보여주는 영수증을 찍어냈습니다. 가전제품에 대한 우리의 악몽은 이제 끝이 났습니다. 그는 우리가 떠날 때에 “함께 문제를 해결할 수 있도록 아주 친절하게 해주셔서 감사합니다.”라고 말했습니다.
While I think being nice when I didn’t feel nice helped in this process, getting refunds is not why we should show kindness to others. The real reason is that as Christians we are to reflect the light of Jesus (Eph. 5:8) on everyone—whether it’s an irate neighbor, a bumbling waiter, or a department store manager. Our speech and behavior are to be a positive witness (Eph. 4:29-32; Col. 4:6). Are you facing a conflict? Let Jesus’ light shine through. —Dave Branon		나는 친절하게 하고 싶지 않을 때 친절하게 했던 것이 이번의 경우에 도움이 되었다고 생각하지만, 환불을 받기 위해서 우리가 다른 사람들을 친절하게 대해야 하는 것은 아닙니다. 진짜 이유는 그리스도인으로서 우리는 예수님의 빛을 모든 사람에게 비추어야 하기 때문입니다(에베소서 5:8). 그것이 화가 난 이웃이거나, 실수를 연발하는 웨이터이거나, 아니면 백화점 지배인이라도 말입니다. 우리의 언어와 행동은 긍정적인 간증이 되어야 합니다(에베소서 4:29-32; 골로새서 4:6) 지금 갈등을 겪고 있습니까? 예수님의 빛이 당신을 통해 비추어지도록 하십시오.
As people of the Lord we’re called  To follow in His way;  And then all those who watch our lives  Will see Him on display. —Sper		우리는 주님의 백성으로  그분의 길을 따르라는 소명을 받았네  그리하면 우리 삶을 지켜보는 모든 이들이  주님의 모습을 볼 수 있다네
People are attracted to Christ when you shine His light from your life.		삶으로 그리스도의 빛을 비추는 사람이 다른 사람들을 그리스도께 인도한다.

 

Ephesians 5

Be Imitators of God

 ^1 (A)Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; ² and ^(B)walk in love, just as Christ also^(C)loved ^[a]you and ^(D)gave Himself up for us, an^(E)offering and a sacrifice to God ^[b]as a ^(F)fragrant aroma.

 ³ But ^(G)immorality ^[c]or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among ^[d]saints; ⁴ and there must be no^(H)filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which^(I)are not fitting, but rather ^(J)giving of thanks. ⁵For this you know with certainty, that ^(K)no^[e]immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom^(L)of Christ and God.

 ^6 (M)Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things ^(N)the wrath of God comes upon ^(O)the sons of disobedience. ⁷ Therefore do not be ^(P)partakers with them; ⁸ for ^(Q)you were formerly ^(R)darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as ^(S)children of Light ⁹ (for ^(T)the fruit of the Light consists in all ^(U)goodness and righteousness and truth), ^10 [f](V)trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
