The Dalton brothers were infamous outlaws during the late 1800s in the US. They started out on the right side of the law as officers. But then they followed a gradual descent into crime and became known for bank and train robberies. Their day of reckoning came when they tried to hold up two banks at once. Hearing of the robberies, the townspeople armed themselves and began to fire on the Dalton Gang. When the smoke cleared, Emmett Dalton was the sole survivor.		달턴 형제는 1800년대 말 미국의 악명 높은 무법자였습니다. 처음에는 보안관으로서 법의 바른 편에 서서 출발하였지만, 점차 범죄에 가담하면서 은행과 기차강도로 알려지게 되었습니다. 그들이 한번에 은행 두 곳을 강탈하려 하던 날, 그들에게 심판의 날이 닥쳤습니다. 강도 소식을 들은 마을 사람들이 무장하고 나와서 달턴 갱단을 향해 총을 쐈던 것입니다. 연기가 사라졌을 때, 에멧 달턴 혼자만 살아남아 있었습니다.
After serving 15 years in the penitentiary, Emmett was pardoned and set free. While in prison, he had come to see the error of his ways. So when he was released, he wanted to deter young people from a life of crime. Drawing from his own experience, Emmett wrote and starred in a film about the Dalton Gang in which he showed the folly of being an outlaw. In many ways, Emmett’s film was telling others: “Do not enter the path of the wicked” (Prov. 4:14).		에멧은 감옥에서 15년간 복역한 후 특사로 석방되었습니다. 그는 감옥에 있는 동안 그의 삶이 잘못되었다는 것을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 그래서 그는 석방된 후 다른 젊은이들이 범죄의 삶에 빠지지 않도록 돕고 싶었습니다. 그는 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 달턴 갱단에 대한 영화의 각본을 쓰고 주연으로 출연했는데, 그 영화에서 그는 무법자가 되는 것이 어리석다는 것을 보여주었습니다. 에멧의 영화는 사람들에게 여 러 가지로 “사특한 자의 첩경에 들어가지 말라”(잠언 4:14)는 것을 말해주고 있었습니다.
In a similar way, when we have sinned but have genuinely repented and experienced God’s forgiveness, we can tell our own story. We can encourage others not to make the same mistakes we have made. James wrote, “He who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death” (5:20). —Dennis Fisher		이와 같이 우리가 죄를 지었어도 진정으로 회개하고 하나님의 용서를 경험하였다면, 우리도 우리 자신의 이야기를 말해주어서 다른 사람들에게 우리와 같은 실수를 저지르지 말라고 권면할 수 있습니다. 야고보는 “너희가 알 것은 죄인을 미혹한 길에서 돌아서게 하는 자가 그 영혼을 사망에서 구원하며 허다한 죄를 덮을 것이니라”(5:20)고 기록하였습니다.
If others learn from our mistakes,  And it saves them from the pain  That we ourselves experienced—  Then it wasn’t all in vain. —Sper		만일 다른 이들이 우리의 실수에서 배운다면  그리고 그 배움이 우리 자신이 경험한  그 고통에서 그들을 구해낸다면  이 모든 것이 결코 헛된 것은 아니었네
When we learn from our mistakes, we are less likely to repeat them.		자신의 실수에서 교훈을 얻을 때 같은 실수를 덜 반복하게 된다.
