When someone asks, “How are you?” it has become common for the response to be, “I’m good.” When we say this, we are really saying, “I’m well” or “I’m doing fine,” speaking of our general well-being and not our character. I have answered with that response more times than I can count, but lately it has begun to bother me. Because, whether we realize it or not, we are saying something specific when we use the word good.		누가 “안녕하세요?”라고 인사하면, 그 대답으로 “좋습니다(I’m good).”라고 말하는 것이 일반화되어 있습니다. 우리가 이렇게 말할 때 사실 이 대답은 “괜찮습니다.”나 “잘 지냅니다.”라는 말로, 우리가 대체로 지내기가 좋다는 뜻이지 우리의 품성에 대한 이야기는 아닙니다. 나도 셀 수 없을 만큼 많이 그렇게 대답했지만, 최근 들어 그것이 내 마음을 불편하게 만들기 시작했습니다. 우리가 ‘좋다(good)’라는 단어를 쓸 때에는 우리가 그것을 인식하고 있든 아니든 우리는 어떤 구체적인 것을 말하고 있기 때문입니다.
Jesus once encountered a wealthy young man who called Him “Good Teacher” (Matt. 19:16). The young man was right, for Jesus is both good (completely perfect) and the Teacher. He is the only one who can truly make that claim.		예수님은 주님을 “선한 선생님”이라고 불렀던 한 젊은 부자를 만난 적이 있습니다(마태복음 19:16). 예수님은 선하시고(완벽하게 온전하시고) 또한 훌륭한 선생이시므로 그 젊은이의 말은 옳았습니다. 예수님은 진정 그와 같이 불리실 수 있는 유일한 분이십니다.
The Lord, however, challenged the man to think about what he was saying in using that term good. “So He said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments’ ” (v.17). Jesus wanted the man to understand that the assertion he was making needed to be taken seriously. Jesus can be called “good” because He is God.		그러나 주님은 그 젊은이로 하여금 그가 ‘선하다’라는 단어를 쓸 때, 그것이 무엇을 의미하는지를 생각해보도록 환기시키셨습니다. “예수께서 가라사대 어찌하여 선한 일을 내게 묻느냐 선한 이는 오직 한 분이시니라 네가 생명에 들어가려면 계명들을 지키라”(17절). 예수님은 그 젊은이가 자신이 하고 있는 주장이 진지하게 다뤄져야할 필요가 있음을 이해하기 원하셨습니다. 예수님이 “선하다”고 일컬어질 수 있는 것은 그분이 곧 하나님이시기 때문입니다.
Next time someone asks you, “How are you?” it is great to be able to say, “I’m well.” But remember, only Jesus is good. —Bill Crowder		다음에 누군가가 “안녕하세요?”라고 인사하면, “잘 지냅니다.”라고 말할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 예수님만이 선하시다는 것을 기억하십시오.

God is great and God is good, but without Him we are neither.		하나님은 위대하시고 선하시다. 그러나 하나님 없이는 우리는 위대할 수도 선할 수도 없다.

 ^16 (A)And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain ^(B)eternal life?” ¹⁷ And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There isonly One who is good; but ^(C)if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” ¹⁸ Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said,“^(D)YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS; ^19(E)HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and ^(F)YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” ²⁰The young man *said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?” ²¹ Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be ^[a]complete, go and ^(G)sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have ^(H)treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”²² But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.

 ²³ And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, ^(I)it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ Again I say to you, ^(J)it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” ²⁵ When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” ²⁶ And looking at them Jesus said to them,“^(K)With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
