 소유로부터의 자유   사랑은   내 마음이 따뜻해 지고 풋풋해 지고   더 자비스러워 지고   상대방이 좋아할 게 무엇인가 생각하는 것이다.     사람이든 물건이든   바라보는 것만으로도 충분한데   소유하려고 하기 때문에 고통이 따른다.     누구나 집에   도자기 한두 점 놓아두고 싶고   좋은 그림 걸어 두고 싶어하지만   일주일 정도 지나면   거기 그림이 있는지도 잊어버린다.     소유란 그런 것이다.   손안에 넣는 순간   흥미가 사라져 버린다.      하지만 단지 바라보는 것은   아무 부담없이 보면서   오래토록 즐길 수 있다.     소유로부터 자유로워야 한다.    사랑도 인간관계도 마찬가지다.       법정 잠언집 '살아있는 것은 다 행복하라' 중에서    

  

 

 

 

Freedome from Possessions

 

 

Love is something

that makes my mind warmer, verdant,

and more compassionate,

getting me to think about

what it is my counterpart would enjoy.

 

Whether with people or things,

thought it is sufficient enough just to look,

because we seek to possess them,

suffering follows.

 

Everyone wants to have inside their house

 a few pieces fo ceramics to set out

or a nice picture to hang on the wall.

But even after only a week or so has passed,

they come to forget such things are even there.

 

Possessions are just such things.

The moment they come into your hands

their attraction completely disappears.

 

But in the act of viewing something,

simply watching with no obligation,

one can feel pleasure forever.

 

We must free ourselves from possessions.

This holds true

in the case of love and relationships as well.
