큰 슬픔이 거센 강물처럼 
그대 삶으로 밀려와 
마음의 평화를 산산조각내고 
가장 소중한 것들을 영원히 쓸어가 버릴 때 
그대 가슴에 대고 말하라. 
'이것 또한 지나가리라.' 

끝 없는 힘든 일들이 
기쁨의 노래를 멈추게 하고 
너무 지쳐 기도하기도 버거울 때면 
이 진실의 말이 그대 마음의 슬픔을 사라지게 하고 
힘겨운 하루의 무거운 짐에서 벗어나게 하라. 
'이것 또한 지나가리라.' 

행운이 미소 짓고 
하루하루가 환희와 기쁨으로 가득 차 
근심 걱정 없는 날들이 스쳐갈 때면 
오직 세상의 재물에만 마음두지 않도록 
이 말을 깊이 생각하고 소중히 간직하라. 
'이것 또한 지나가리라.' 

그대의 진실한 노력이 명예와 영광을 안겨주고, 
세상에서 가장 고결한 사람들이 그대에게 미소를 보낼 때면, 
인생에서 가장 웅대하고 오래 지속된 이야기도 
지상에서 잠깐 스쳐 지나가는 찰나에 불과함을 기억하라 
'이것 또한 지나가리라.'

When some great sorrow, like a mighty river, 
Flows through your life with peace-destroying power 
And dearest things are swept from sight forever, 
Say to your heart each trying hour: 
"This, too, shall pass away." 

When ceaseless toil has hushed your song of gladness, 
And you have grown almost too tired to pray, 
Let this truth banish from your heart its sadness, 
And ease the burdens of each tring day: 
"This, too, shall pass away." 

When fortune smiles, and, full of mirth and pleasure, 
The days are flitting by without a care, 
Lest you should rest with only earthly treasure, 
Let these few words their fullest import!!! bear: 
"This, too, shall pass away." 

When earnest labor brings you fame and glory, 
And all earth's noblest ones upon you smile, 
Remember that life's longest, grandest story 
Fills but a moment in earth's little while: 
"This, too, shall pass away."
