묵은 해와 새해

 

 

누가 물었다.

스님은 다가올 미래에 대해서

어떤 기대를 가지고 있느냐고.

 

나는 대답했다.

" 나는 오늘을 살고 있을 뿐

미래에는 관심이 없다. "

 

우리는 바로 지금 이 자리에서

이렇게 살고 있다.

바로 지금이지

그때가 따로 있는 것이 아니다.

이 다음 순간을, 내일 일을

누가 알 수 있는가.

 

학명 선사는 읊었다.

' 묵은해니 새해니 분별하지 말라.

겨울 가고 봄이 오니 해 바뀐 듯하지만

보라, 저 하늘이 달라졌는가.

우리가 어리석어 꿈속에 사네. '

The Old Year and the New Year

 

 

 

Someone once asked me.

"In the future ahead,

what kind of expectaions do you have?"

 

I answed,

"I am merely living today,

with no concern about the future."

 

The only way we are living,

is right now and right here.

There is nothing other than right now;

"then" is not a separately existing thing.

Who can know about the next moment?

Who can know the affaires of tomorrow?

 

The Seon Master Hak Myeong once wrote,

"Make on distinction between the old year and the new.

When winter passes and spring arrives, it may seem that

   the year is changing,

but take a look, is it not the sky that has undergone the

   change?

We are so stupid, living in a dream."
